The Importance of Self-care

It can be all too easy to forget to treat ourselves kindly when we’ve had a difficult day, especially if we live with ADHD. The temptation to push through, get more done, or even punish ourselves for not managing everything is strong. I can be guilty of doing this myself at times!

If you have ADHD, then you'll know that it brings plenty of challenges that aren’t always visible to others; we might look like we’re coping, but underneath we’re often juggling a huge amount just to get through the day. So when things feel overwhelming, or we haven’t ticked off everything on the list, that does not mean we have failed, it is a sign that we need a rest.

It is not lazy or indulgent to take a break; it's looking after ourselves! The importance of self-care cannot be overstated.

Whether it is binge watching your favourite show, doing a bit of gardening, reading a book, or in my case - a chocolate based treat! - then you deserve to do it.

So if today has been one of those days, be kind to yourself; take a break without feeling guilty, and spend a little time doing something just for you.
