How does ADHD impact relationships?

Updated: Apr 25

While on holiday in Spain recently, I walked past the church where I got married, and I found myself reflecting on something close to my heart - relationships, and more specifically, how ADHD can affect them.

It’s no secret that relationships take work. But for couples where one or both partners have ADHD, it can create unique challenges. In fact, research has shown that divorce rates are higher in relationships where ADHD is a factor, which is a really sad statistic to read.

Many of my clients share similar struggles: feeling overwhelmed by day-to-day responsibilities, difficulties with organisation or follow-through, and misunderstandings that stem from things like forgetfulness or low motivation.

Chores and childcare can become sticking points, and rejection sensitive dysphoria can become stronger, and even small disagreements can feel incredibly painful and triggering.

However, there is some good news; with the right support, there are strategies that can make a real difference, and coaching can help you to learn these.

ADHD coaching can offer practical tools and insights to help you understand your own patterns, communicate more clearly, and build a stronger, more compassionate relationship.

If you’d like to learn more or see if coaching could help you and your partner, then get in touch and we can talk about how I can help you.
